It's Just Scott

WordPress Day

In early 2005 I began my journey with WordPress and WordPress MU.  The struggle of bugs, errors, documentation and owners.  But today I stand back and look at the masterpiece that is WordPress.

There is no other blogging software that can even dream of comparing to WordPress; they can merely dream to taste the crumbs of the WordPress success.  I remember seeing, years ago, pictures of Matt’s first servers on a pallet.  Though just a few servers, it’s amazing to look at where the amazing creation of few is today.  With a farm of servers, a host of talented and gifted developers and an owner that has stepped from the role of developer to one of leader to a blogging revolution.  Without Matt, WordPress would be nowhere close to the empire it is today.  And the greatest aspect of WordPress is the fact that it’s free and added upon by thousands with plugins, themes and coding.

So today I say with the coming election, let’s make a WordPress day.  I doubt anyone could ever fully guage the success of WordPress but with the millions of writers and authors to be, the stories could easily tell an endless tale.

free.wordpress.com

It seems the blog for Ric of Opendomain has gone private.  Makes a person wonder if that was his doing or someone else…hmmmm.

I smell some funk in the air

Stolen website

A while back it was posted that Matt of the stolen domain name “WordPress.com” decided to lie, cheat, and steal his way to getting his form of justice. It’s ironic of the similarity to Robin Hood.

Well, the lack of conscience may be not the wiest choice with new admendments recently placed into law which governs the internet and more specificaaly websites. I spoke to a few lawyer friends of mine and they said Ric at Opendomain.org (the guy that was dooped by the Matt) would easily be able to win in court if he so chose to take it to that level.

On a personal note, it’s really sad when a man freely loans out such a popular and in-high-demand domain name for free and gets screwed over as he was. I believe that what goes around comes around.

The free movement

We all like free!  Getting something for nothing is very sweet.

I took part in the Opendomain project as i got webloog.com.

WordPress.com is apart of that site as well and got this domain for free thanks to Ric Johnson.  The only agreement i had to make was to put a link on the bottom of each page to the opendomain project…easy enough!  Well WordPress.com isn’t working within that parameter and is not palcing that link there.

I think it’s really sad that Matt and the admin staff would choose to violate such an easy agreement and become “unreachable” to Ric and his numerous efforts to contact him on this.

If you want to read more about this i suggest visiting Ric’s wordpress.com site http://free.wordpress.com/2005/10/04/free/

File Manager

After a few hours of editing code i’ve managed to create a file manager program for WordPress SU.  After some testing and porting i’ll make it public for MU when the code is ready.  So far so good

Invites and more invites

I’ve gotten 30+ emails now for an invite to the exclusive club de wordpress.  Oddly enough some of the people asking are quite well known in the blogging community and even hold level 7-9 google ranking…craziness.

I’m not sure how the new invite system works exactly but from what i gather the more time you invest into WordPress.com through posting the more likely you will be getting invites.  It’s pretty cool but the anticipation of wondering if this will be the post to get me an invite is crazy.

Ah well, maybe one of the Admind will have pity on my soul and give me a few for some amazing writers to come aboard.

IM client maybe???

Thanks to Donncha I found out about an AJAX IM service for websites.  After some awesome testing the messenger seems like an awesome addition to WordPress.com as Donncha mentioned.  You should definetly check it out:

The downside of publicity

I’m loving the changes to WordPress but there is a down side to making a beta public.

With the recent additions of showing the top blogs on the main page of wordpress.com comes spammers.  I’ve recieved multiple comments asking for invites with a small blurb of a compliment on whatever the post me be talking about.  Sad.
